The theme of our project is
GOLD
the center of myths and tales
the symbol of beauty, power and the sun itselfGOLD - KULD - GULD
Our first theme is GOLD!
Gold has a strong symbol that goes across the Baltic Sea, recorded in the cultures as far back as the bronze age. KULD in Estonian and Livonian and GULD in Swedish. The name of the town Kuldiga is Livonian and refers to very old tales about gold treasures.
Gold is used as an important feature in the runosongs and folktales in Estonia, the midsummer songs of Latvia and as a symbol in medieval ballads.Search the arhives
Sweden, Estonia and Latvia
all have a type of long-story-singing
...that has for centuries been traveling from generation to generation through active collective singing, with the purpose to co-create stories by improvising on common story themes - building connectivity and openness.
Estonia has their “regilaul”, Latvia the “dainas” and Sweden the “medieval ballads”. Leading a singing session demands its specific skills in setting up the story, bringing in the co-singers and allowing for creativity and improvisation, often done completely a cappella. A skill we need each other to train and mediate, and that will benefit both locally and the Baltic Sea region.Links to archives with runosong
