What is the KULDRUM project?
a storytelling project
KULDRUM is Livonian, Estonian and Swedish. Guld/Kuld Rum/Ruum. A golden room - the golden place, physical and spiritual, where people connect and create belonging and identity through storytelling. KULDRUM wants to create a long term network where storytellers and folksingers can share storytelling practices on how to bring in people into creativity, and how to weave culture and identity into the fabric of society and everyday life.
Join the project!
share and learn storytelling practices
The project aims to create activities - physical and online - for storytellers and folksingers. The project is open both to professionals who use storytelling in their performances through playing music, singing songs, lecturing knowledge, or telling stories, and people who have a passionate interest.
Today, the network is active through our facebook page >>The story that inspired us to start the KULDRUM project
Folk song from Estonia
Lähme seda teeda mööda,
seda teeda tipulist,
ja tehtud teeda mööda,
velle raiutud radasi,
kust on enne orjad käinud,
orjad käinud härjad läinud,
mis on jäänud jälgedelle,
mis on sammuli sadanud
kulda jaanud jalgadelle,
hõbe sammule sadanud,
kes oli hullu noppis kulda,
ma põlnd hullu nopsin kulda,
kulda sain ma kuuetäie,
hõbedat sain hõlmatäie,
vaske vana vaka täie
viisin ma kulla kodoje,
viisin kulla memme näha
hõbedase õe näha,
vase vana naeste näha
memm panni kulla kuivamaie,
alla kaane kasvamaie
kuivis kuu kuivis kaks,
kuivis kuu kolmandalle,
natukese neljandalle,
veidikese viiendalle,
mõne pääva pealekauba
Kullast sündis neitsikene
Let's go walking together
Walking on the forest road
The road where the slaves have walked
The road where forefathers went
What is left in the footsteps?
Gold is left in the footsteps
Who was the crazy one to pick up the gold?
I was the one, who picked up the gold
I put it to grow
It grew a month and it grew two
And grew a day or two
And then it became a woman

Our hearts stand with Ukraine!
The aggression on Ukraine has created worries for friends in Ukraine, but also worries for the risk of being countries with borders towards Russia. Having a history of being locked into the Soviet Union, fighting for freedom and sovereignty as countries, but most of all the freedom of speech and interactivity as people and cultures.
The Kuldrum project is about how cultures in countries around the Baltic Sea connect through traditional storytelling, through common story themes that have been built and evolved through centuries, even millenaries, in people's lives. Russia is of course also a part of this culture evolvement, as the folk tradition goes beyond national borders and men in power.
A Baltic Sea Project
Through funding from Nordic Culture Point the project will run
between 1 of August 2021 and 31 of August 2022
