SHARING STORYTELLING PRACTICES
ONLINE FROM KULDIGA, LATVIA 15 Oct 2021
The first session in the afternoon we gathered app 15 professional folk singers and storytellers who discussed how to share experiences and knowledge with each other. The subjects were how to lead a group, how to incorporate into choir and theatre, how to work with children and young people. The topics are endless.
Kairi Leivo and Astrid Selling arranged the second session with songs and participants from the afternoon session sang and told stories.
Afterwards, we were happy to see that the approx. 40 participants did not only come from Sweden, Estonia and Latvia!
En the evening we opened up for the public to participate. Live broadcast from Kuldiga with an interview of the tradition carrier Lidija Jansone, who with the help of films from the 1930s, told us about intricate wedding celebrations in Kurland.
A singing trio from Kuldiga gave examples of the Latvian tradition of singing so-called dainas, i.e. long narrative songs.
