KULDRUM project visits Viljandi Folk Festival 2022
A festival in a festival - Viljandi 25 - 27 July
The last station
The last halt in the first phase of our project was Estonia and a visit to the Viljandi Folk Festival. This was be our last event and we were contributing to the festival with a workshop and a concert. The goal was also to set the future platform for our strive to connect storytellers around the Baltic Sea.
A festival in a festival
Our last stop on our great first journey together was at Viljandi Folk Festival. We had decided to try to let our Kuldrum festival become "a festival in the festival".
Reaching out
This turned out to be an interesting learning. On the positive side we got to expose the project to a huge audience. People said our storytelling workshop and performance brought back some air to the big festival, like it used to be.
Storytelling demands intimacy
On the other hand our time to be together in our network was a bit more limited. The Swedes and the Latvians decided to go the the National Museum in Tartu to have some time to learn more about Estonian/Ugrian history and folklore. The quite newly established museum also gave examples of fantastic storytelling, with new concepts to tell old stories.
